Dear Brother and Sisters
Salam Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh
The first of the month of Dhil-Hijjah, according to the edicts of Ayatullah al-Uzma Sayyid al- Sistani, was not established to be on 22nd July, because the hilal wasn’t seen anywhere in the region on the night of 21st July, nor has it been proven from the data presented by the scientific community that it would have been visible with unaided eye. Therefore, today 23rd of July is the first day of the month of Dhil-Hijjah, and the blessed day of Eid al- Adh’ha will be on 1st August.
The followers of other Maraji’ may have their Eid a day earlier. They are advised to refer to the offices of their Maraji’ for guidance.
We pray to Allah s.w.t. to make our Eid, whenever it is, and all our occasions of worship – especially the Day of Arafah, 9th of Dhil-Hijjah – blessed and bountiful for us, and we pray to Him to end the epidemic that has caused physical distance amongst us, and has not allowed us to go to the Imambarga, for Hajj and for Ziyarah.
With salam and du’as
Ali Abbas Yusufi
